WATERPROOF RAIN JACKETS | US V.S. THE REST

Spot the difference.

Outerwear is one of the most complicated pieces of clothing due to its numerous technical elements and material detail. Of course, the Rain Jacket is no exception. It’s a luxury to live in a world where (good) rain jackets exist… How else are you going to stay dry on a rainy day?

Let’s get to know each other a little better.

Waterproof v.s. Water Resistant

A waterproof jacket gives you the highest level of rain protection. It is meant to drive out any rain and prevent it from getting through to your skin. With a blend of outward-facing fabrics and quality lamination and coating, a waterproof jacket is your go-to if you are expecting heavier rain.

A water resistant jacket provides a low level of rain protection. If it’s a light drizzle, you can definitely get away with just a water resistant jacket, but anything more, you will most likely end up getting wet. Go big or go home… right?

Breathability

Breathability is important to consider, and yet it is most commonly ignored! The combination of waterproof and breathability is what keeps you the most dry. Keeping rain from peaking through while also transferring sweat back through to the outside– maximized performance rainwear.

Durable Water Repellent (DWR)

DWR is the coating that is used on waterproof and water resistant jackets. You know when you are able to see water beads on a jacket? That’s the DWR coating in action. Traditional DWR - and what you see mostly on the market- often contain harmful PFCs, which are toxic and persist in the environment.

Our DWR used is PFC-Free, eliminating harmful chemicals that persist in the environment.

HOT TIP: DWR coatings are temporary and can wash off over time. To regenerate the DWR, put your jacket in the dryer for 20min to restore the water-repellent properties.

Due to the overwhelming amount of rain jackets in the market, we narrowed down a few of the most purchased, in comparison with our Waterproof Rain Jacket

Upon founding Adhere To, our founder Alex worked as an apparel designer and developer, focusing on tech wear and outerwear. She designed for apparel companies, working extensively with technologies such as fully seam-sealed waterproofing, various bonding techniques, laser cutting, down-fill, poly-fill, and more. In the midst of it all, Alex came across a gap in the market - an opportunity to offer outdoor apparel that combines sustainability, functionality, and contemporary.

The Waterproof Rain Jacket is more than just a jacket. Since we design and produce in small quantities, we want to make sure that each piece is made to perform and maximized in functionality. From the zipper down to the thread, every detail is carefully thought out. The jacket is entirely made of recycled fabrics- We've ensured all our synthetic fabrics are 100% recycled and our water repellency treatments are all BIONIC-FINISH® ECO PFAS-Free DWR - all from certified suppliers. We use mono-fibered material for easier end of life recycling many years down the road.

♺ FUNCTIONALITY

First, it must perform in the elements. We perform many tests at the mill, garment manufacturer, and in-house in order for them to be approved.

We design our pieces as a system, to take you from balmy day to a chilly fall evening. Both of our Crop and Regular length Waterproof Jackets have a a hidden zipper and snaps to attach our Re:Down Light Puffer and Crop
