PUFFER JACKETS | US V.S. THE REST

Spot the difference.

It’s chilly out there – if you’re thinking about investing in a new puffer jacket because you’ve had your old one since first grade, you’re in the right place. There is an overwhelming amount of puffer jackets out there for you to choose from, so we decided to break down some options for you.

Here's what you should know:

Down and Re:Down

You might come across the term “down” when researching puffer jackets. Down is a layer of fine feathers, usually obtained from geese or ducks. It is extremely light, fluffy, breathable, and durable, and it creates high-loft clusters that prevent air and heat from escaping.

GRS-certified, Re:Down regenerates down and feathers from post consumer resources in the environmentally friendly methods. They are completely disconnected from the virgin down business (that means absolutely no slaughter houses, bird flu, or animal cruelty!) Re:Down recycles 97% of their collected goods and aims to solve a part of the textile waste problem. Adhere To is proud to use 100% recycled down in our puffer jackets through Re:Down!

Fill Power (FP)

Fill power (FP) tells you the relative quality of down. A higher number does not equate to more warmth, but instead better loft and insulating efficiency, a.k.a. less down fill is required to capture the same amount of heat. A higher FP jacket tends to be lighter and more compressible.

Durable Water Repellent (DWR)

DWR is the coating that is used on waterproof and water resistant jackets. You know when you are able to see water beads on a jacket versus when it's just utter wetness? That’s the DWR coating in action.

Traditional DWR - and what you see mostly on the market- often contain harmful PFCs, which are toxic and persist in the environment. (The DWR we use is PFC-Free!)

HOT TIP: DWR coatings are temporary and can wash off over time. To regenerate the DWR, put your jacket in the dryer for 20min to restore the water-repellent properties.

This comparison chart was designed to help you narrow down a few of the most purchased and popular puffer jackets within similar price range and quality in the market.

We design for those who appreciate quality and care about the wellbeing of the planet, but still want to enjoy playing around with fashion. After all, the goal is to invest in a good quality puffer jacket that can last us for the many winters to come. With elements of classic style through elevated fit and pattern work, we were able to introduce our Re:Down Puffer Jacket (in cropped and full length). Built around the foundation of our brand – sustainability, functionality, and contemporary aesthetic.

Produced at our WRAP (World Responsible Accredited Production®) certified vendor in Vietnam, our puffers are built on GRS certified down, which is 100% recycled, renewed and regenerated from donated items. Re:Down chooses the highest quality of feathers to reuse, and any broken feathers and down that aren’t used are turned into organic fertilizer. The exterior of our puffer jackets is made of 100% recycled nylon from recycled fabrics, and the baffle/down bag, lining, fleece, and rib cuff are all made of 100% recycled polyester from post consumer fabrics and recycled plastic bottles.

Our material suppliers are certified with Bluesign®, Global Recycled Standard, OEKO-TEX®, and Higgs.
